Luis E. Colón, MD joined Whitson Vision in January 2012. With his friendly, easy-going manner and kindness, patients can feel at ease while receiving their care. His approach is personalized and focused on patient's needs. He brings with him a rich experience in comprehensive eye care combined with many hours in the operating room where he has polished his skills in the repertoire of eye surgeries he performs. In addition to enjoying the whole spectrum of eye care and surgery, Dr. Colón has a special interest in refractive cataract surgery (presbyopia correcting intraocular lenses), dry eye treatment and macular degeneration. He performs laser treatments for glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and secondary cataracts.
He completed his ophthalmology residency at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Upon satisfying his U.S. Army commitment, Dr. Colón did an apprenticeship in ocular plastic and reconstructive surgery with Richard L. Anderson, M.D. (oculoplastic surgeon) at the University of Utah Medical Center. His internship was in internal medicine and completed at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington.
His undergraduate and medical school were completed at the University of Puerto Rico and the U.P.R. Medical Sciences campus respectively.
Dr. Colón, who is fluent in spanish, has been in private practice in Indiana since 1993. For eighteen of those years, he was in the North Central Indiana area with Eye Physicians Inc, where he was a partner and co-owner. There he practiced comprehensive ophthalmology offering medical as well as surgical eye care with offices in Kokomo, Peru, and Logansport.
Dr. Colón is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Society of Military Ophthalmologists and the Indiana Academy of Ophthalmology.
